oh just some morning baking

Tonight we are having a "getting to know you" activity at relief society and I signed up to bring a dessert. The problem with that is that I don't have any time today between school, work, and the activity to make anything! So I woke up extra early to bake these delicious cupcakes. I'm not usually a cupcake fan, or an oreo fan, but goodness, these just looked delicious so I had to give it a go. I'm not very good at following recipes either. In fact, I managed to combine about 5 recipes from the following links!

I haven't tried them yet but I'm sure they will taste as delicious as they look! Mmm. I don't really want this to be a recipe blog, but if you want me to put together the recipe I used, let me know and I can get that to you!

Also, check out these delicious Philly cheesesteak stuffed bell peppers we had for dinner last night! They turned out delicious and they are very easy to make. I found the recipe on pinterest. HERE is the link to the website.

DIY and a silly obsession

Today has been a kitchen cleaning, laundry doing, DIY kind of day! I had the day off from work today so instead of working on school stuff (which would be reasonable) I decided to do some things around the home.

Here's a little arrangement I made in our front hallway. John and I have key problems apparently, so I made a cute little key hanger with an old mint frame I had laying around, some cute scrap book paper, and some screw hooks. Really simple and I love the way it turned out!

Finally made something cute to hang up all of my earings! They are too fun not to put up on display. I don't even know where the gold frame came from but I love it. I got some cute lace ribbon and hot glued the ribbon to the frame, and now my earings will forever have a home. Now I just need something to hang my necklaces.

I am not very good at keeping sentimental things. I just don't do clutter. Last week I was getting sick of crumbly flowers getting everywhere and I almost trashed my wedding bouquet. I know right? Well somebody gave me the idea to take all the flowers off and put them in a jar. So I did! And here is my lovely bottled bouquet. I like it a whole lot more than the messy one.

Anybody a fan of Downton Abbey? Well you should be. It's a television series that I have become fairly obsessed with. Seriously it is definitely worth your time. Watch it. I have never been a dedicated television series watcher, but I can fully say that I have watched every single episode, and am just longing for more. One problem I have with any movie, book, series, etc. is that I get too emotionally attached to the characters. It's becoming a problem. It's not like I get creepy obsessive, but it's more like my emotions start becoming tied to theirs. If a character is completely giddy over something, then I start acting the same way. If someone dies, then I could cry for hours. Pathetic right? Yeah I know...

happy monday!

Today is a "Ho Hey by the Lumineers" kind of day. I don't know if seeing all the snow this morning put you in a better mood, but it sure did for me. I don't really even like the snow all that much but today I do. I went out to the car to brush it off so I could take John to school and the snow was all the way up to my knees. Seriously. Just a fluffy blanket of snow.
I wanted to make snow angels and play in it with John (like all cute couples do), but unfortunately, time is of the essence and that is exactly what we are lacking.

So I put on my chunkiest sweater, black (sparkly) leggings, my tallest boots, and of course a teal scarf for a pop of color because it is a wonderful, snowy day! Unfortunately, they don't give snow days at work but I just know it will go by quick.

This is for my wonderful husband. I cannot even express how grateful I am for him.

John and I are learning that a clean home is a happy home. So this is project "I made the bed!"

Do you like our awesome headboard? Actually it's just a wall with a note to my husband on it. Yes I do cute things like that! Someday we will have an awesome headboard.
Maybe after work and a long night at the library I can work on project "look honey I did the dishes."

Here are some of my favorite moments from last week.
  • Celebrating our 5 month anniversary! Big deal I know. John and I went and saw "Parental Guidance" with our awesome friends Jack and Erin! We then enjoyed some delicious homemade chocolate chip cookies and stayed out talking the night away.
  • Watching John get frustrated putting together our new bookshelf. Is it wrong to think it's cute when he's frustrated?
  • Getting a calling in our ward! Can't tell what it is yet but details will be soon to come.
  • Staying up late with John, snuggling, and whispering our sweet nothings to each other. I am one lucky girl.

fashion and flowers

My husband scored big time! A few days ago I was stressed out because the house was a mess, laundry needed to be done, and I just couldn't squeeze any of it in between school and work. Oh and John had to break our door down because I locked us out, with the key inside. Smart move right? Well it kind of resulted in a broken door knob. Well, yesterday while I was at work, John played house-husband! He cleaned, did laundry, fixed the door so we didn't have a cold apartment, AND he bought me flowers! You don't realize how much I have been dropping the hint (more like demanding) that I want flowers! I am one lucky girl.

The best part was that he asked me to help him find something under the couch. I went to go lift the couch so he could search underneath, but to my surprise there was a vase of flowers, right between the couch and the wall. He is just full of surprises!

Here's something new! Thanks goes to my sister Michelle for helping me with the photos. I've been into polka dots lately and I hope you like them too.

Now don't judge when you read where I got these. I am not one to spend $30 on a shirt so I make my ways. It's difficult to find clothes that I love for a low price though but I think target is the solution. They usually have trendy clothes for reasonable prices. Love target!

Peplum, polka-dot top: Target
Black jeggings: Nordstrom Rack
Teal necklace: My Mom's closet... hehe
Boots: Santa Clause brought them to me
(you will probably be seeing a lot of the boots because I love them too much)

did you say free printables?

Alright everybody! Valentine's day has always been a special day for me because... it's my birthday! I have no idea if anybody is even interested in some cute valentine decor but here are a few cute printables that you can either frame, print on a canvas, put in a photo book, or whatever else your heart desires! All I ask is that your use is personal. Please do not copy, manipulate, or reproduce for your own personal gain. Also, I'm trying to get my blog name out there so if you could somehow mention the name color that or refer them to my site address http://colorthat.blogspot.com/ then that would be so helpful! Feel free to share this link to friends, families, etc.

These prints are available in either 5x7 or 8x10. If you have any other size requests then just ask and I can email you whatever you would like!

All you have to do is follow one of the links, open up the file with the size and color you want, and click download! Let me know if there are any questions. I am trying out box.com and so far their preview of the file looks different than what the download actually is. The colors are off so just excuse that. The colors you see here on my blog are the colors you will be getting!
Just click on the link HERE if you want .jpg files and click HERE if you want .pdf files. Enjoy!

I plan to have more free printables in the future! If you have any requests then feel free to email me at missy.dorius@gmail.com or comment on this post or anywhere else on the blog.

a review of 2012

This new years eve was celebrated differently than ever before! John had to do a 24 hour shift at the fire station so I was just home alone and when 11:30 pm rolled around then I headed over to the fire station to get in my new year's kiss! We had a bowl of ice cream and when midnight hit then we shared a short and sweet kiss, afraid that the other fire fighters would walk in on us.

We started the new year off just the way I wanted to though. John got us a hotel room and we stayed up snuggling through movies, relaxing in the jacuzzi tub, and check this out, the hotel had a 24 hour sauna and steam room! Have you ever been in a sauna before? Well it kind of freaked me out actually. I was afraid we were going to somehow get locked inside and melt to death. But don't worry, we made it out alright and it was nice and relaxing. It was a short getaway but definitely needed and deserved before the new semester starts up. Yes I think I do have the best husband ever! Sorry girls.

Well I feel like this year has just flown by! Here are some of my favorite highlights from 2012.

I chopped my hair off!
My brother Michael got home from his mission! I've been looking for photos for that one but I can't find my memory card from that camera...
Wisdom teeth are out. Hello puffy cheeks...

When I wasn't going to school last winter I got a job as an elementary reading aid and had the wonderful opportunity to work with second and third graders. I loved all of those kids. If I could do everything I loved to do then working with kids would be on my list.
This is a little message that a few of the kids I worked with wrote me while I was in the other room. So cute.
Got a job at Cold Stone Creamery and still going strong!

Cheer Extreme! That's the cheer team I helped coach. Lots of cute little girls and lots of fun!

I also celebrated my birthday... just like everyone else, of course. My birthday is extra special though because it's on Valentine's Day. That's right, be jealous. I'm sure this year's birthday will amazing. I am holding high expectations for John. I don't think he will fail :)

I got a new sister and I love her.
My new niece Savannah! Isn't she the cutest baby? Love this chunkers!
New roomies: Me, Jenny, Lauren
More roomy lovin: me, Marissa, Jenny
Judging dance competitions with this lovely lady. Hello dear :)
Started dating this hottie!
Fell in love and got engaged to the man of my dreams.
Isn't he handsome?
So happy together, forever.
Sealed in the temple to my wonderful John and could not be happier about it.
My new family accepted me with such love.

That's right! We went on a cruise for our honeymoon :)
Sorry ladies, he's taken :)
And this is where the pictures fade. One of my new year's resolutions is to take more photos! So I guess I will just have to recap the rest in words:

We finished yet another semester at BYU-Idaho. John pulled off straight A's!
Once the semester was over, we packed up and drove to Spokane to visit John's family. My favorite part was just getting to know everybody more and enjoying the interaction.
We drove back to Rexburg, then on to Pocatello to spend Christmas eve with my family. John and I got pajama pants (a tradition we're starting for ourselves).
Unfortunately John worked on Christmas, but I did go to the fire station and eat Christmas dinner with him and the other fire fighters.

This year I am very grateful for family, especially John. I am learning every day the importance of family relationships and hope that I can continue to feed my relationships with others so that they may grow. My love for John and appreciation for him grows every day and I know it will continue.

Later this week I'll post some of my new years resolutions I plan on implementing!
