my sappy weekend recap!

This is my brag post about my weekend and I hope you enjoy!

First of all, I celebrate my birthday on the day that everybody expresses their love. That's right, Valentine's day. I haven't ever been the biggest fan of that. Being married was leaps and bounds better than before though! I had to go run a few errands and when I came home,  John gave me these lovely red roses. I'm a sucker for flowers and these are just beautiful. I am so in love with my husband and every day I fall more and more in love with him.

After hours of homework, I was getting ready for our date night and this lovely necklace arrived for me. I won it in a giveaway from Billy Beads. Isn't it gorgeous?  Well I wore it to dinner, and school the next day, and church today. Can you tell I like it?

We stuffed our faces at Texas Roadhouse, ordered way too much food, and have been eating leftovers for days. We planned to see the new Nicholas Sparks movie, Safe Haven after eating, but we seriously ate enough food to put us to sleep. However, we did go see it last night and I bawled like a baby. I am a big sucker for those movies. Who doesn't love love right?

Remember these printables I made? Well I didn't get to actually hanging them up, but I definitely displayed them and here's how they turned out! Everyone who has stopped by absolutely loved them, which made me feel very loved.
And here's a photo of me and my chunky niece Savannah. I have the privilege of babysitting her Monday, Wednesday, Friday while my sister is in class and I love it. Tell me she isn't the cutest baby ever.

v-day decor

V-day is approaching and love is in the air. I think it's all sorts of exciting. Sorry for those of you who don't. Well this is my contribution. I designed some prints to hang up in my home to get us in the mood. What do you think?

I just got them printed and bought some frames and later tonight I am going to hang them up! If anybody is interested in getting these printables, just let me know and I am more than willing to share the goods. I'll post pics later of how they look all framed and hung.

february already?

Can you believe it's February already? This month is a special one. It's my birthday, valentine's day, and John and I will be celebrating our 6 month anniversary also! I can't believe it's almost been half a year already.
Over the weekend I drove down to Pocatello to judge a cheer competition. It was lots of fun and I was able to spend some time with my parents also. My dad and I went to cafe rio for dinner and watched the Jazz game together. The next day, my mom and I went shopping for an early birthday present. We picked out some fabric so I could make a quilt for John and I. We only have a comforter, and it would be nice to have an extra blanket for these cold winter nights. I hope to get started on the cutting on Saturday. What do you think of the fabric I picked out?

I'm hoping to do something a bit like this chevron quilt. I don't know what it is about chevron stripes lately but I love them. It will make for a cute design and some great snuggling.

I've never really done anything for the superbowl but this year John and I went over to watch it with some of his old roommates. I can't say I was too enthused over the game, but I did make a really yummy dip that everyone loved! Of course I got it from pinterest, along with all of my other great ideas I would love to claim as my own. Check the recipe out HERE.

It was absolutely delicious! Who can't resist a chocolate chip dip? Especially when cream cheese is involved. I used teddy grahams to dip. Next time I do it I will probably just use graham cracker squares though because the teddy grahams were rather small. Seriously though, it was so simple and such a success. I dare you to try it.

John isn't really sure what to get me for my birthday/valentine's day so I told him I would make him a wishlist. Don't worry, I would rather know that I will love what I'm getting, instead of hope that he gets me something good. So here it is!

  1. Pink, polka-dot, sweater
  2. Nike free run 3.0 V4
  3. Rhinestoned Heart Studs
  4. Faceted Heart Necklace
  5. Workout Capris
As for what I'm getting for him for valentine's day, well that will just have to be a surprise!

Even though I was apart from John for the weekend, my favorite part was staying up late texting him. He still gives me all sorts of butterflies inside. I was even lucky enough to come home to a completely clean house. That's right, dishes done, bed made, clothes picked up from the floor. I think I'll keep him around ;)

did you say free printables?

Alright everybody! Valentine's day has always been a special day for me because... it's my birthday! I have no idea if anybody is even interested in some cute valentine decor but here are a few cute printables that you can either frame, print on a canvas, put in a photo book, or whatever else your heart desires! All I ask is that your use is personal. Please do not copy, manipulate, or reproduce for your own personal gain. Also, I'm trying to get my blog name out there so if you could somehow mention the name color that or refer them to my site address http://colorthat.blogspot.com/ then that would be so helpful! Feel free to share this link to friends, families, etc.

These prints are available in either 5x7 or 8x10. If you have any other size requests then just ask and I can email you whatever you would like!

All you have to do is follow one of the links, open up the file with the size and color you want, and click download! Let me know if there are any questions. I am trying out box.com and so far their preview of the file looks different than what the download actually is. The colors are off so just excuse that. The colors you see here on my blog are the colors you will be getting!
Just click on the link HERE if you want .jpg files and click HERE if you want .pdf files. Enjoy!

I plan to have more free printables in the future! If you have any requests then feel free to email me at missy.dorius@gmail.com or comment on this post or anywhere else on the blog.

a review of 2012

This new years eve was celebrated differently than ever before! John had to do a 24 hour shift at the fire station so I was just home alone and when 11:30 pm rolled around then I headed over to the fire station to get in my new year's kiss! We had a bowl of ice cream and when midnight hit then we shared a short and sweet kiss, afraid that the other fire fighters would walk in on us.

We started the new year off just the way I wanted to though. John got us a hotel room and we stayed up snuggling through movies, relaxing in the jacuzzi tub, and check this out, the hotel had a 24 hour sauna and steam room! Have you ever been in a sauna before? Well it kind of freaked me out actually. I was afraid we were going to somehow get locked inside and melt to death. But don't worry, we made it out alright and it was nice and relaxing. It was a short getaway but definitely needed and deserved before the new semester starts up. Yes I think I do have the best husband ever! Sorry girls.

Well I feel like this year has just flown by! Here are some of my favorite highlights from 2012.

I chopped my hair off!
My brother Michael got home from his mission! I've been looking for photos for that one but I can't find my memory card from that camera...
Wisdom teeth are out. Hello puffy cheeks...

When I wasn't going to school last winter I got a job as an elementary reading aid and had the wonderful opportunity to work with second and third graders. I loved all of those kids. If I could do everything I loved to do then working with kids would be on my list.
This is a little message that a few of the kids I worked with wrote me while I was in the other room. So cute.
Got a job at Cold Stone Creamery and still going strong!

Cheer Extreme! That's the cheer team I helped coach. Lots of cute little girls and lots of fun!

I also celebrated my birthday... just like everyone else, of course. My birthday is extra special though because it's on Valentine's Day. That's right, be jealous. I'm sure this year's birthday will amazing. I am holding high expectations for John. I don't think he will fail :)

I got a new sister and I love her.
My new niece Savannah! Isn't she the cutest baby? Love this chunkers!
New roomies: Me, Jenny, Lauren
More roomy lovin: me, Marissa, Jenny
Judging dance competitions with this lovely lady. Hello dear :)
Started dating this hottie!
Fell in love and got engaged to the man of my dreams.
Isn't he handsome?
So happy together, forever.
Sealed in the temple to my wonderful John and could not be happier about it.
My new family accepted me with such love.

That's right! We went on a cruise for our honeymoon :)
Sorry ladies, he's taken :)
And this is where the pictures fade. One of my new year's resolutions is to take more photos! So I guess I will just have to recap the rest in words:

We finished yet another semester at BYU-Idaho. John pulled off straight A's!
Once the semester was over, we packed up and drove to Spokane to visit John's family. My favorite part was just getting to know everybody more and enjoying the interaction.
We drove back to Rexburg, then on to Pocatello to spend Christmas eve with my family. John and I got pajama pants (a tradition we're starting for ourselves).
Unfortunately John worked on Christmas, but I did go to the fire station and eat Christmas dinner with him and the other fire fighters.

This year I am very grateful for family, especially John. I am learning every day the importance of family relationships and hope that I can continue to feed my relationships with others so that they may grow. My love for John and appreciation for him grows every day and I know it will continue.

Later this week I'll post some of my new years resolutions I plan on implementing!

happy happenings

It has been quite a while since my last blog update! Let's just say that life has been on full speed the past few weeks. I decided to give a quick update on recent life.

Our short little Thanksgiving break was perfect. Lots of family, lots of laughs, lots of games, and LOTS of food! John and I had Thanksgiving with my family this year and there were 13 pies this year. There was lots of variety too which is unheard of in my family! Usually it's mostly apple and pumpkin but we went all out this year and they were all delicious! My mom even made her famous completely vegan apple pie with apples from my daddy's tree. Can you guess which one it is? I will have to share the recipe for that in a later post because it is sincerely delicious!

I also have a few more pics from my photography class. Luckily I had a drop dead gorgeous model. A shout out to my niece Ashley for helping out! Sorry boys... she's taken.

For my next photo assignment my professor wants self-portraits so stay tuned for those coming next week!
For my graphic design I was given an artist and had to create some posters as if a museum hired me to advertise an upcoming art gallery. Any body heard of Charles and Ray Eames? Well they are an eccentric married couple who design furniture, fabrics, architecture, games, short films, etc. Well I'll show you what I have so far. I am far from experienced but I feel like I am doing pretty good considering how far I am into the program. I used adobe photoshop and illustrator to design these. If you have any questions, feel free to ask either through email or just comment on this post!

This one is definitely my favorite so far! Not too crazy about some of the typography but hey that just means there's room for improvement.
Only 2 weeks left in this semester! I'm trying to finish out strong so if I don't make another post for a while then that's the reason. Once school is out then we are planning on spreading Christmas decor around our little home. How exciting!
